CSI: Vegas season 3

Now firmly established as the top-rated television drama, by its third year CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a show positively glowing with confidence. Even when individual cases seem either too contrived or too easily resolved, the indefatigable night shift at the Las Vegas PD crime lab always look the part, solving conundrums and discovering microscopic damning evidence while, apparently, never shedding their own loose hair or skin cells all over the supposedly quarantined crime scenes. In reality, Catherine Willows’s flowing blonde locks would contaminate any evidence she collected, but in the world of CSI only the bad guys leave body parts behind–the CSIs themselves are so good they’re positively pristine.

Welcome back to the Harpers’ Malibu beach house, home to one of the funniest TV comedy hits in a long, long time. Bachelor Charlie’s trying (but not very hard) to remember the name of the girl currently taking a shower upstairs. And Alan, Charlie’s divorced, uptight brother, who’s proud to have been named the San Fernando Valley’s Chiropractor of the Year. And Jake, Alan’s 11-year-old son, who’s happiest with a juice box in one hand and the TV remote in the other. After a year of living together, the guys have figured out how two and a half men equal one family. Sort of. But there are plenty of hilariously rough spots along the way.4 and May 2005. The season consisted of 24 episodes. The DVD was released on January 8, 2008.

New characters introduced this season include Orlando Jones as Brad, whom Jeff is surprised to find that he likes despite his being gay, and Timmy (Adhir Kalyan), nominally Russell’s “assistant” but in reality his servant and all-around whipping boy. The latter is a great addition; in the “Family Style” episode, Russell’s dating a therapist who refuses to take him on as a patient, so he sends Timmy in his stead, with hilarious results. Elsewhere, veteran actor Brian Dennehy guests as Jeff’s father, whose chauvinism toward women in general and Audrey in particular makes his son look like the Dalai Lama, while other funny story lines involve Audrey pretending to be pregnant in order to get special treatment at work, Jeff injuring his back (and confronting his creeping senescence) playing softball, and Russell trying to induct a wide-eyed Amish visitor into his depraved lifestyle. With its constant sexual innuendo and gags about homosexuality, male braggadocio, and such, Rules of Engagement isn’t exactly for intellectuals; nor is it likely to join All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, and others in the pantheon of immortal sitcoms. But that shouldn’t stop this entertaining show from continuing to find a broad and loyal audience.

CRIMINAL MINDS revolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. The Behavioral Analysis Unit’s most prominent agent is David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), a founding member of the BAU, who returns to help the team solve new cases, while pursuing some unfinished business of his own. Each member brings his or her own area of expertise to the table as they pinpoint predators’ motivations and identify their emotional triggers in the attempt to stop them.

American Dad season 4

If Family Guy could spoof Star Wars with the epic Blue Harvest episode, then it’s only fitting that American Dad take on the espionage world of Agent 007. In “Tearjerker,” a season 3 benchmark that kicks off this three-disc set, Stan Smith (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) portrays secret agent Stan Smith, with the other characters taking on Bondian persona. Dutiful wife Francine (Wendy Schaal) is transformed into the femme fatale Sexpun T’Come, and alien Roger (MacFarlane) portrays arch villain Tearjerker, a failed actor with a diabolical scheme to make the saddest movie in the world that will make all who see it cry themselves to death. At one point, Stan meets his superior, B (a game Patrick Stewart), in Japan. When Stan asks why they must be dressed as geishas, B replies, “Because I thought we could be secret Asians.” Which just goes to show that American Dad will go any distance for a gag. And we mean that literally. In the episode, “Pulling Double Booty,” Stan and Francine’s rebellious peacenik daughter (Rachael MacFarlane) gets hot and heavy with Stan’s CIA body double, which elicits a projectile reaction from Francine. “Oedipal Panties” is another cringe-worthy episode in which we discover the lengths to which Stan will go to keep his mother to himself.

Burn Notice season 2

Burn Notice settles into a satisfying groove in its second season. The cast is cool and confident, the writers have mastered the mix of stand-alone stories and the season-long hook, and the blend of retro-70s flavor with 21st century self-awareness is delicious. Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) still hasn.t figured out who .burned. him–i.e., got him blacklisted as a covert agent and left him trapped in Miami. But he has uncovered a lead in the form of Carla (Tricia Helfer, Battlestar Galactica), a mysterious manipulator who assigns Michael unexplained tasks. But if he resists these tasks, everyone he loves is at risk–including his mom, Madeline (Sharon Gless, Cagney & Lacey), his sleek and violent ex-girlfriend Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar, Scent of a Woman), and his squirrelly best pal, Sam (Bruce Campbell, Evil Dead II).

Gary Unmarried season 1

Gary Unmarried stars Jay Mohr and Paula Marshall in a comedy about Gary Barnes, a recently single painting contractor, and his controlling ex-wife, Allison, who face post-divorce mayhem after 15 years of marriage as they each embark on new relationships. He’s the fun parent and she’s the strict one. Together, they share custody of their two children – Louise, a politically correct and environmentally conscious 11-year-old, and Tom, their socially awkward 14-year-old son who is nervous around girls.

Charming and acerbic, Gary hasn’t dated since the split, but finally connects with Vanessa, a single mother whose condo he was hired to paint. He dreads telling Allison about Vanessa because it doesn’t adhere to her belief in their marriage counselor’s book, “Rules for the Perfect Divorce.” However, when Allison tells him that she’s engaged to their shrink, all bets are off and Gary decides it’s time to move forward. Now, in pursuit of post-marriage happiness, Gary must juggle his eclectic world of an ex-wife, their two kids, their shrink and his gorgeous new girlfriend.
